MANILA, Philippines – Four-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach declared in an interview with ESPN Radio that both he and Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao want to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. “badly.”
“We want that fight badly,” Roach said. “We agreed to everything he asked for the last time... and nothing happened.”
Roach said that he hoped Mayweather meant his words when the boxer said that he absolutely wanted to fight Pacquiao.
“Is it just talk or is it action?” Roach asked.
But Roach added that Mayweather will still have to face Victor Ortiz in September, and that the fight will not be an easy one.
“He is fighting Victory Ortiz and he’s a southpaw...He has to beat Ortiz first and that’s not going to be an easy task,” Roach said, adding that southpaws have traditionally given Mayweather some problems.
Roach also said that Ortiz will have an advantage because Mayweather has not fought in a year and a half.
